On a post about polygamy and why Christians ought to reject it, someone called mongamy a heresy! No joke! These people are completely nuts.
Apart from the fact that Europe was strongest under Christianity, when monogamy got enforced by the Church—monogamy may even be what put Europe at the forefront of global dominance in all kinds of areas—they apparently do not even see the irony of wanting multiple wives when monogamy is not even working any longer.
They cannot live a monogamous marriage and then want four or even more wives …?
The arguments in favor of it do not convince me anyway. In Genesis, we read that only one man and woman were created in Garden Eden. Further, God took one rip, as someone else wrote; this may be a minute point but polygamy was at best a crutch, nothing in Genesis seems to suggest that sexuality even existed in Garden Eden.
Further, we already have a kind of functional polygamy, marriage in the West has been destroyed, yet some argue we need polygamy despite monogamy not even working! Further, women today are able to drive, earn money – you would have to be a kind of Hollywood star for such an arrangement.
Who wants to grow up in such an environment? It is similar to having step parents; maybe you are the child of a woman favored by your father, which in turn leads the rest of them being jealous and hating, maybe mistreating you. I think more about such matters because I suffered during childhood already.
Lastly, those written about in the Old Testament living in polygamy were Kings. Modern, western Christians even thinking they are such irresistible men is just plain laughable, or cringe, as one would say online. Really, as if we were kings! We are going under in the West.
God may have killed Solomon; it were his wives especially that led him astray, getting him to worship other gods. Also, Joseph did not live polygamously with Mary, though the defenders of it are so sex-crazed, they cannot think clearly.
