ACHTUNG! 9front is absolutely and unalterably opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, nationalism, ethnocentrism, religious fundamentalism, and oppressive and coercive power structures of all kinds.
Guys like Linus Torvalds have been known to be “tough,” not only on the Linux kernel mailing list (“LKML”), but also in real life, pointing the middle finger at Nvidia and whatnot.
Yet, they are fully on board with social justice warriors—Torvald’s daughter even being one—and their not-so tough views.
This also affects developers of far less important projects like OpenBSD’s Theo de Raadt. Worse, even a small and irrelevant community like suckless is suffering from this kind of cancer as well.
This is ridiculous. They will crash down hard on you for asking a simple question, put down others because of—in their opinion—less than optimal code.
But criticize SJW view points and they will start gasping.
IT is a dead-end anyway. Society is going to collapse. As Piero San Giorgio writes in his Survive the Economic Collapse, a “CV” that may look impressive now will become absolutely useless once the chaos hits.
Another good example is the fringe group 9front centering around Plan 9 From Bell Labs. Especially given that the original developers of Plan 9 were mostly accomplished scientists who were also involved with inventing Unix and the C programming language, among others.
(Even if they want to distance themselves from the suckless.org community, which also gave rise to equally immature and vulgar sites like cat-v.org and bitreich.org, I do not see where they are different. Same vulgar dung.)
To an outsider like me, the 9front.org posse appears rather childish, vulgar, immature; not the kind of attitude I would have associated with the original Plan 9 developers.
Their crude and vulgar “humor” is off-putting, on the level of 4chan meme culture. For example, to use an image of Auschwitz in an article about Ruby on Rails is immature; to then double down by infesting their website with images of Black Lives Matter, a link to a horrible music video about Nazis or so (disgusting “music” similar to the Sex Pistols or Dead Kennedys), a link to Planned Parenthood—sexual decadence and killing babies is fine in their eyes—which is totally unnecessary. Not to speak of their stance on Ukraine, showing them to be total SJW imbeciles who support whatever is the “current thing.”
They are exactly what Vox Day rightly wrote about.
Further, this is a quote from their site which, I add, is about software! Said the imbecile:
ACHTUNG! 9front is absolutely and unalterably opposed to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, nationalism, ethnocentrism, religious fundamentalism, and oppressive and coercive power structures of all kinds.
Obviously, this is absolutely hilarious; apart from the fact that they cannot even define sexism, racism and so on. Let alone an obfuscation like ethnocentrism. Religious fundamentalism is even weirder, given that you have to base your faith on Christ Jesus if you are a Christian — whom else? There exists no neutral standpoint, you have to have a foundation.
(Not to speak of their own authoritarianism, forcing their own subjective morality onto us that they cannot define nor defend.)
They further make references to Hip Hop “artists” like Ice-T, showing that they indeed are prole and consumers of low culture. Yet they claim to have the moral and intellectual high ground! (Anselm Kiefer is a horrible artist and of rather low intellectual calibre; he is a nihilist at heart.)
Regarding the Auschwitz image, in their appendix we read:
Once upon a time, khm was searching for rails documentation and accidentally hit the Images link. In the first page of results was a photo of the train tracks of Auschwitz. Its presence among the Ruby on Rails logos was so absurd and out of place that khm memorialized it. It was made in an era before actual Nazis had re-entered the public dialogue, so it felt like Google Image Search was denigrating Ruby on Rails by including this sort of imagery in the results.
The claim that “actual Nazis” had re-entered some public dialogue that does not even exist shows how clueless they are. Too short for this ride, Vox Day would say. khm is Kurt H. Maier, who makes use of the term Nazi as well on his mastodon page. Which means he thinks this really means something (apart from the fact that national socialism still exists in Asia, for example.)
Apparently, they are fine with mass murder if committed by communists, though. Why else add their manifesto?
I guess the younger generation calls this being an NPC.
A user called hiro, most likely from Germany, is caught up in self-hate rhetoric as well. Cf. an email he wrote in 2015. The context is ridiculous anyway. Did he really want to liken the orchestrated “refugee crisis” to how people at Dachau were treated?
Many of them seem to be from Germany or the US, which means if they did not do a lot of reading and thinking on their own, their historical knowledge has to be abhorrent. Which it apparently is.
Regarding one of their users or contributors called Igor Böhm, I again add that I do not care about those with PhDs in technical fields—computer science in this case—who act as if their opinions on politics or other topics outside of their expertise are of any importance.
Böhm most likely does not know Latin or Greek, has not read any of the classics of political theory like Plato, Aristotle, Tacitus, Tocqueville or Carl Schmitt and yet wants to act as if his views are worth considering.
A lot of those active in the IT and software field seem to have personal issues, quite a few are radical leftists buying into the propaganda Clown World feeds them. I even encountered a rather high number of transgender people I had not noticed in other fields.
A total train wreck, complete nutters. No idea why they think they are so important.
Saying that something sucks is vulgar anyway, which Half-Sigma/Lion of the Blogosphere, whom I do not like much nor care about, once remarked. Just another sign for what Paul Fussell called prole drift. This also goes for pointing the middle finger at Nvidia as well as most foul language to be found on mailing lists of horrible projects like OpenBSD, 9front, suckless, and other unimportant and mostly useless software wasting our time.
I am pretty certain that being active in such fringe projects, especially those with really horrible communities I mentioned above—minus Linux, due to its popularity—is a kind of coping mechanism for many. Otherwise, they would go insane and suffer a giant drop in their self-worth.
It is, again, all a waste of time; time better spent praying or reading high literature.
As mentioned above, I do not care at all about their so-called “philosophical” views, as they are not educated nor interesting enough to have any.
I cannot take seriously someone who unironically calls himself a hard-core atheist—I won’t mention names—, is a life-lover and uncritical vaccine supporter. That is just too much, it has to stop. You are not that important, your views are wrong and to be rejected.
And now leave me alone you idiots, writing software is not rocket science. At least the vast majority of it isn’t; it is not even remotely comparable to composing a symphony or writing a masterpiece et cetera.
As I expected, IT guys are some of the worst in this regard, especially those who are otherwise so tough when it comes to code and opinions on irrelevant topics like software. For example, OpenBSD’s Peter Hessler—login: phessler—runs bsd.network, a mastodon instance which not only has a so-called code of conduct, but an absolutely ridiculous one at that.
Some quotes:
Content promoting the oppression of any marginalized group is forbidden. We will stand unapologetically in defense of these groups, and will not tolerate hateful language or harmful rhetoric directed toward groups subject to social exclusion.
[…]
Additionally, the following are expressly forbidden:
* Conduct promoting the ideologies of fascism, National Socialism, white supremacy or other extremist, violent or xenophobic viewpoints.
* Symbols and slogans associated with these groups should not be used casually or in a joking fashion, and may result in removal from the service at the discretion of the moderators.
[…]
All nudity, sexually-explicit content, gore or violent content should be tagged or hidden from the public timeline. No sexualized content featuring children, even artist depictions, will be tolerated.
We strongly recommend content about politics, current events and any disturbing topics be given a content warning out of respect for the other users of this instance.
So nudity is allowed, of course, but not to voice one’s views regarding politics …
While this is not an offical part of any of the BSD projects as far as I understand it, phessler is a OpenBSD developer. Which makes this even more of a joke as the OpenBSD project is known for having quite some arrogant, rude developers—not to speak of the founder!—on board who enjoy lecturing others in a kind of holier-than-though kind of fashion too obnoxious to take seriously.
This is so over-the-top especially given that he features a lot of reposts (or however it is called there) of pride day posts, even of an Antifa International user.
These guys are extremely brainwashed people, this is … risible. Do they not see how laughable this is? They force their own highly opinionated viewpoints onto you, though you will be removed if you defend yourself against their lies and accusations as right winger or whatever.
It’s what happens when the uneducated take over who don’t read much, except for “code”.
Obviously, I share Nicolás Gómez Dávila’s disgust for the modern world:
Writing is the only way to distance oneself from the century in which it was one’s lot to be born.
The only man who saves himself from intellectual vulgarity is the man who ignores what it is fashionable to know.
Nothing makes clearer the limits of science than the scientist’s opinions about any topic that is not strictly related to his profession.
