The world does not care

No matter how well-written an argument might be, no matter even if it’s true: the world does not care (much) about it. After all, the Truth entered the world, and was spat upon, ridiculed and finally brutally killed, crucified.

What do I expect, therefore, by writing these mini essays?
Not much, but since I am alive, and since I am neither able to join a true ascetic monastery, nor do I have enough money to move to the country side and simply leave this vulgar civilization we are forced to live in today, occupying myself with reading, learning, praying – I will continue to call out the imbecile.

Of course, above I forgot to add that I would prefer not to exist at all. As a Christian, though, I now have to drag through this horrible life that was forced upon me. This wretched existence! I long for the grave.

Gómez Dávila was aware of it:

Our denouncing the imbecile does not mean that we wish to get rid of him. We want diversity at any price.
But the charm of variety should not prevent us from judging correctly.

The most precise and shortest definition of a true civilization has been given by Trevelyan: A leisured class with large and learned libraries in their country seats.

The fervor of the homage which the democrat renders to humanity is comparable only to the coldness with which he disrespects the individual.
The reactionary disdains man, without meeting an individual he scorns.
